Successful Parenting in the Wild, Wild World of Youth Sport

The Wild World of Youth Sport can be, at times, enough to make a parent’s head spin.  Managing an athlete’s pro-style schedule, embracing different coaching styles, dealing with other parents, avoiding burnout, and teaching sportsmanship through sport can challenge even the most well-grounded parents.

Michael Riggs, M.Ed. is the president of Performance Consulting, Ltd., and the creator of the highly acclaimed youth sport, parental guidance program Parent’s Pal.  Michael earned his masters degree in Applied Sport and Performance Psychology from the University of Virginia in 1991, studying directly under renowned sport psychologist Dr. Bob Rotella.

Michael, a former high school teacher and coach, has become widely recognized as an expert in the field of youth sport and successful youth sport parenting.  As an exciting and educational speaker, he is highly sought after by youth sport parent groups across the nation.   Additionally, he has been called upon by respected institutions as Colorado State University , the University of Denver , the University of Illinois , and Northwestern University to assist with their program development.

Playing Between the Ears

A Mental Skills Clinic for Youth and High School Athletes

The complete athlete is a well-prepared individual -- physically, as well as, mentally.  While most players admit that “the game within the game is between the ears”, mental skills training is often overlooked as an ingredient young player assembles a performance program.  The player’s mental preparedness is often the difference between success and failure.  There is no better time to learn to think like a champion than when a player is young and eager to learn – the right way!

How to Apply Mental Skills Training to your Youth and High School Sport Team

Keeping Your Head in the Game – a Coaches Clinic has been created for youth and high school coaches to help them successfully apply the concepts of sport psychology into their programs.  Sport psychology, in its simplest form, is about teaching athletes to think better so that they will perform better.  This clinic will offer attending coaches the fundamental concepts and skills necessary to help their teams win more games and have more fun doing it!
